Larimer County Sheriff's Office
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office will be conducting increased DUI saturation patrols throughout the St. Patrick's Day weekend. An event sponsored by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and part of The Heat Is On campaign, the Larimer County Sheriff's Office will conduct saturation patrols which will take place throughout the weekend in various locations throughout Larimer County.
To reduce the number of DUI's in Colorado during the March 14th-18th St. Patrick's Day enforcement period, local law enforcement agencies are working to educate citizens on impaired driving and emphasize the importance of designating a sober driver, asking for a ride from a sober friend or finding alternative modes of transportation to keep the roads safe for everyone. This campaign includes a warning to those who consume marijuana to also seek alternate transportation because driving high on marijuana or any other drug will also result in a DUI charge.
"Last year, law enforcement agencies in Colorado made 486 arrests during the St. Patrick's Day weekend," said Darrell Lingk, Director of the Office of Transportation Safety at CDOT. This year, nearly 90 law enforcement agencies throughout Colorado will participate in the St. Patrick's Day enforcement event.
If you choose to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with friends and family make sure to be responsible and don't drive home if you are under the influence.
