The Hewlett Fire brings home the need to stay informed and stay connected in cases of emergency. Larimer County reminds citizens that there are multiple ways to get the information you need when and how you need it:
- Larimer County’s web site, the Virtual Courthouse, offers a free Email subscription to receive ‘Emergency Notifications. ’ Currently 3,245 citizens are signed up to receive emergency email notification updates from Larimer County Emergency Management Manager Erik Nilsson with the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office. You can sign up at http://www.larimer.org/subscriptions.cfm and check ‘emergency notification updates’ or go to theEmergency Information page at: http://www.larimer.org/emergency/ and subscribe there.
- Larimer County, in partnership with United Way of Larimer County, 211, has a ‘Special Needs Registry.’ This is a data base of individuals in Larimer County who have special needs and may require assistance in an emergency. The data base has important information about those signed up for the assisting emergency personnel. Participation in the Special Needs Registry is voluntary. To sign up for the registry just go to: http://larimer.org/apps/specialneeds/. People interested in volunteering can also contact 211 for volunteer information.
- Sometimes emergency phone calls need to go out for evacuations and other notifications. If you have a traditional land line it is in the system. If you don’t have a land line you can still register your cell phone, business phone, get a text message or an email. This is a free service used to notify citizens in a specific area of impending danger. If there is an emergency where you live yet you are working 30 miles away, you can still be notified. The enhanced emergency notification system is available through the Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority, LETA. You can register free at http://www.leta911.org/.
