Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is requesting permission to access Larimer County Parks and Open Space lands in order to 1) radio-track and 2) capture and collar adult female elk for an ongoing inter-agency study by the CPW, Rocky Mountain National Park, and the National Park Service (see attached study plan). 1) In order to radio-track previously collared elk, CPW is requesting permission to access the Chimney Hollow and Bald Mountain areas, via motor vehicle, biweekly. 2) In order to capture femalel elk, to deploy radio-collars, CPW is requesting permission to access those areas listed in the application, in addition to the Chimney Hollow and Bald Mountain areas. CPW will coordinate capture operations with the appropriate Larimer County staff. Capture activities will occur primarily in the early morning and late afternoon when elk are typically most visible and accessible. CPW would like to attempt to capture and collar at least 1, but up to 5 adult female elk. Capture operations are highly variable in duration, but CPW will attempt to minimize the time spent on Parks and Open Space lands. In addition, Larimer County assistance for the activities listed above is welcomed.
