What we offer for schools and other groups: Larimer County's Department of Natural Resources can make your next school field trip or group outing as educational as it is fun by providing a guided hike with a Volunteer Naturalist. Volunteer Naturalists are members of your community who donate their time to interpret the natural world for visitors to Larimer County's Open Spaces and Parks.
The Education Program is also able to provide speakers for your Rotary, Kiwanis, Elks clubs or other civic group or organization. Topics listed below, along with programs about the Department itself, the Open Lands Program, and the Parks Program, are available.
Topics for your program could range from local geology, to local flora and fauna or even local history. We can work with your group to design a program that will meet your objectives whether they be for advancement in scouting or other youth groups, or to meet Colorado State Educational Standards.
How to sign up your group: Large groups visiting Larimer County's Parks or Open Spaces will need to contact Heather Young, (970) 679-4489. This helps to ensure that we do not have multiple school field trips at the same site on the same day. If you are proposing a hike for your school group or recognized community organization, no fees apply. If you would like assistance from a Volunteer Naturalist for your program please indicate this in the notes section of the form.
Funding for transportation: Limited funding for school bus transportation is also available. Please contact us if you would like to receive some aid to cover the cost of fuel and labor for your field trip.
For questions about your program, or to discuss the possibility of having a Volunteer Naturalist guide please contact the Education Program. Heather Young, firstname.lastname@example.org, (970) 679-4489
