Larimer County Sheriff's Office
On August 6, 2017, at approximately 5:17 p.m., Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies were notified that Wyoming Highway Patrol had pursued a red Hyundai southbound on Interstate 25, but terminated the pursuit when they reached the Colorado state line. Deputies located the vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 25 near mile marker 279 less than 10 minutes later. Deputies followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop after observing multiple traffic violations. The vehicle exited the interstate, but turned westbound onto Cleveland Avenue in Wellington instead of stopping. The vehicle finally stopped in the 8200 block of 6th Street.
The driver and passenger were removed from the vehicle and both showed physical signs of intoxication. The driver was identified as Dustin James Shupe (09/06/1988) and the passenger was identified as Mark Jason Vankleeck (10/14/1983), both of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Deputies saw what appeared to be methamphetamine on the front seats and floorboard of the suspect vehicle. They believed the men ingested large amounts of methamphetamine in attempts to conceal their possession of illegal narcotics. Both men were transported to a local hospital via ambulance.
Vankleeck was released from the hospital on August 7 and booked into the Larimer County Jail on allegations of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Drug Felony). He was released from the jail on August 8 after posting a $1,500 bond. Shupe was released from the hospital on August 8 and booked into the Larimer County Jail on allegations of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Drug Felony), DUI – Alcohol or Drugs (Class 4 Felony), and multiple traffic violations. A bond was not set at the time of this release.
Booking photos of both men are attached. No further information will be released at this time.
The charges are merely an accusation and the defendants are presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.
