Deputy Injured During Arrest
Release Date: Nov 18, 2013
Larimer County Sheriff's Office
John Schulz, Public Information Officer
A Larimer County Sheriff's Office deputy was injured last night after a routine traffic stop turned into a violent confrontation with one of the passengers. The vehicle was stopped Sunday night at approximately 10:39 a.m. in the 4100-block of East Mulberry Street for having no valid registration.
The driver of the vehicle, Kyle Walter Schultz, 27, of Fort Collins, was arrested for Driving under Revocation - Habitual Offender, Expired Temporary Permit and No Proof of Insurance. Mr. Schultz was booked into the Larimer County Jail and was released on a $2500 personal recognizance bond.
A passenger in the vehicle, Nicholas Daniel Clark, 28, of Fort Collins, provided several false names and dates of birth to the deputy. Once identified, it was discovered he had a warrant for his arrest for failure to comply on a third degree assault charge. Mr. Clark subsequently refused to follow the deputies'
commands as they tried to arrest him and fought violently with the deputies as they attempted to handcuff him.
In addition to the warrant, Mr. Clark was arrested for Criminal Impersonation, Resisting Arrest and Second Degree Assault. After being examined and released by emergency medical personnel on scene, Mr. Clark requested to be taken to Poudre Valley Hospital where he was examined and released. Mr. Clark was booked into the Larimer County Jail where he awaits a bond hearing later today.
One of the deputies involved was injured in the struggle. He was initially treated and released but subsequently had to seek additional medical treatment. Medical follow-up is pending.
The charges are merely an accusation and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
