Jailbreak Run Continues/Collect Cash Donations for Flood Victims
Release Date: Sep 18, 2013
Larimer County Sheriff's Office
John Schulz, Public Information Officer
The 2nd Annual Jailbreak 4-Mile Family Run/Walk will be held as planned on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 9:00 a.m.. The event will once again benefit the Child Advocacy Center (CAC). In addition, cash donations will be accepted for the Larimer County flood relief efforts during the event.
While the post-race demonstrations and exhibits may be scaled back due to personnel working the flood, we are asking other agencies to provide some exhibits for us.
The course for the race has been modified slightly due to some flood damage but we are attempting to insure we are still at four miles. All parts of the course will be safe on race day and we're hoping everyone will come out and help support CAC and the flood victims.
Last year's inaugural event raised more than $10,000 for the Child Advocacy Center. Almost 400 people participated in the race with more expected this year.
Awards will be given for the top three overall male/female finishers and the top three male/female in each age group. Age groups will be 10-under , 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, 61-70 and 70+.
This year, awards for the three Best Costumes will be presented. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes in keeping with the law enforcement/jailbreak theme.
The Child Advocacy Center serving Larimer County is a nonprofit organization that provides victims of child abuse and their non-offending family members access to support and services in a safe, compassionate environment. The CAC also works to prevent child abuse through education, serves as an informational resource for those unsure of how to report child abuse, and acts as an educational resource to the community about child abuse.
While the CAC works with professionals in human services and law enforcement throughout Larimer County, it is not a city or county organization and relies on the financial support of corporations, small businesses and individuals to supplement their grant writing and fundraising efforts. The proceeds from the Jailbreak 4-Mile will go toward their operating costs to help them continue to help victims of child abuse. The family-friendly four-mile course begins and ends at the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, 2501 Midpoint Drive in Fort Collins. Registration is $25 in advance or $35 on race day and includes a race tee-shirt. Children in strollers or wagons are free.
