On April 11th from 5:30-7:00pm community members will have the opportunity to provide comments for Board of Health consideration as they review a request by the Northern Colorado AIDS Project (NCAP) to become a legal syringe access site in Larimer County. Comments will be taken in Rooms 135A&B, Human Services Dept., 1501 Blue Spruce Drive, Fort Collins, CO.
For the last five years NCAP has been working with people who inject non-prescription drugs to reduce the risk of HIV and Hepatitis C infections. NCAP also identifies people who are already infected to link them into care and treatment and to reduce the likelihood of them further spreading infectious diseases. Legislation passed in Colorado in 2010 allows syringe exchange programs to operate legally in the state with public health oversight and local Board of Health approval.
NCAP would like to become a legal syringe access site under the oversight of the Larimer County Board of Health.
Comments on the request can also be mailed to Larimer County Board of Health, 1525 Blue Spruce Drive, Fort Collins, CO 80524.
For more information about NCAP’s request, contact Jeffrey Basinger, NCAP Regional Director, 970-484-4469 x 12, jeff@ncaids.org.
