The American Community Survey includes three items that ask about disability status.
The Census categorizes disabilities by dividing them into six types:
- hearing;
- vision;
- ambulatory (walking or climbing);
- cognitive (concentrating, remembering, or making decisions);
- self-care (bathing or dressing); and
- independent living (ability to travel outside the home).

What the above data tell us:
In 2009-2011, the percentage of Larimer County residents with disabilities (9%) was less than the nation (12%) and the state (10%). What the above data tell us:
In 2009-2011, the percentage of disabled Larimer County residents living in poverty (17%) was lower than the nation (22%) and the state (18%). What the above data tell us:
In 2009-2011, the most common types of disabilities in Larimer County were cognitive and hearing. The above percentages do not add up to 100% because an individual may have more than one disability. What the above data tell us:
For the majority of the Larimer County population, a disabled individual was more likely to be unemployed than a fully able individual in 2009-2011. It should be noted that this chart does not represent the unemployment rate for Larimer County. The unemployment rate concerns individuals who are out of work, but are available and eligible for work and have been trying to obtain work. Disabled individuals with hearing and cognitive disabilities were more likely to be employed in 2009-2011 than those with vision or self-care disabilities.Additional Information:
