Larimer County Cooperative Extension Advisory Meeting
March 9, 2006
The meeting was held at the Larimer County Extension Office in Fort Collins. Those present were Rob Ryan, Rob Knebl, Dixie Dick, Ralph Bender, Extension Director Laurel Kubin, Extension Agents Stephanie Tarry and Kate Merkle, and Fred McClanahan, Jr.
The meeting was called to order at 8:05 a.m. Introductions were made and minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
Stephanie Tarry & Kate Merkle, Extension Agents, Food Stamp Nutrition Education, gave a presentation to the committee about the importance of whole grain foods in a healthy diet. This is one of the classes they teach the FSNE program participants.
The Larimer County Extension Office received the In Service to Agriculture Award from the Fort Collins Rotary. The committee congratulated staff on their accomplishments.
Committee members were encouraged to attend the ground breaking ceremonies for the new Thomas M. McKee 4-H Youth and Community Building on Saturday, March 11 at 5:30 p.m. Laurel showed building profiles and layouts.
DeeDee Smidt has been hired as the new campus-wide Events Manager at The Ranch. Bob Holt, who served as Fair Manager, is now landscape manager.
Laurel showed the new Larimer County Cooperative Extension marketing DVD. Discussion followed on the importance of continued marketing so that county residents know the value of Extension. It would be advisable to talk to the commissioners or the county manager every time you see them to reiterate the value of Extension.
All positions at the Larimer County Extension Office are currently filled. Edie McSherry will be at 75% time working with Food Safety and Health Education. Jacque Miller begins work April 1.

We are in need of applicants to fill vacant positions on the Larimer County Extension Advisory Committee. If you know of anyone that would be interested, please have them contact the Commissioners’ Office for an application and guidelines.
The meeting adjourned at 9:35 a.m. Next meeting will be on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at the Larimer County Extension Office.
