LARIMER COUNTY FAIR BOARD MEETING

7:00 p.m.  June 23, 2010

Presentations:

§     Queen’s – no report

§  Ovations – Kyra Schwartz passed out the Gnarly Barley posters and coasters to members.  She reported 21 brewers have confirmed their participation.  August 6th is the Brew Masters Dinner; cost will be $35 a person. 

§  Chairman’s Topics:   Mike Adams - none

Committee Reports:  

§  Pancake Breakfast – Steve Human n & Alan Rankin reported every thing is pretty much in place.

§  Parade – Pat Young needs to know what members will be helping.

Liaison Reports:

§  Junior Livestock –It was reported that the committee is working with CSU livestock judging team members to be used as ambassadors to provide buyers with information and answer questions. 

§  Animal Welfare - no report

§  Tough Enough to Wear Pink – Alan Rankin reported good participation in both the golf tournament and the pancake breakfast.

§   Guest Services – Frank Marino reported he had 50 volunteers on board.  Asked Ryan for some of the tri-fold schedules for the volunteer booklet.  Guest Services orientation s are scheduled for July 14 & 15 at 7:00 pm.  There will be radio use training at the orientation.  He would like to have other volunteer needs soon.  He requested the LaPorte room for guest services again this year.

Extension:  Laurel Kubin

§  Entry information post cards have been sent out to previous Open Class exhibitors.

§  Most judges have been contracted

§  Lining up action exhibits for FNB.  These will be held on Friday, Saturday & Sunday.  Would like to include people exhibiting their unique collections.

Rodeo:  Steve Humann –reported that Fair Board members will receive 6 complimentary tickets.  Went over 2009 list and asked what other comps were needed.  He needs to know who will pick up the group tickets at will call.

Ranch Update: 

§  Entertainment & 2010 Fair Schedule – Lisa Lytle reported updated schedule is on line.  Entertainment on main stage booked.  Sunday will feature blue grass music.  Friday night their will be a bonfire and ice cream social and a band.  Poudre Valley REA has donated the ice cream.  CSU students are involved in helping with this.

§  Building & Grounds – Liz Garcia reported the vendor layout map will be ready next meeting.  New event Bull hide 4X4 Jeep show is scheduled for Saturday.  “Toast to Ag” BBQ will be held on Friday.  No silent auction this year but will continue with live auction.  CSU ambassadors will help with this.  Profits go to a 4-H scholarship and a CSU Ag related studies scholarship.

§  Arena Activities – Abby Powell reported the mounted shooting demos will be Monday and Tuesday in the Longhorn Arena.

§     Marketing – Ryan Young

o Passed out small Fair info tri-folds for distribution. 

o Fair posters will be printed end of week. 

o Fair advertisement will be on billboards in Ft. Collins and Loveland. 

o Tons of press releases are going out. 

o 150 Pepsi stores will have window clings

o Radio- 6 on site broad casts and live interviews

o Media and sponsor appreciation dinner will be held on July 8th.

o Explained the new “Larimer County Fair & Rodeo Family of the Year”.  Annually a local prominent family involved in Fair, Rodeo, Ag and ranching will be chosen and honored at the Sunday night performance.  There will be a banner recognizing the family hung in the BEC during all three PRCA rodeos.  Also feature article in the rodeo program.  The 2010 Family is the Daryl Rennels family.

§     Sponsorship – Dave Namesnik reported total to date is about $114,300 cash & trade. 

Other/New Business: none

Old Business: 

§      Alan Rankin asked about the “Little Book” talked about in earlier meeting.  Bob Herrfeldt asked that this be something to work on in 2011. 

§  Shannon Fancher asked for First National Bank construction update.  Bob Herrfeldt replied that we should have a temporary occupancy permit July 15.
