AGRICULTURAL ADVISORY BOARD
July 14, 2010
Members present: David Bee, Curtis Bridges, Lew Grant, Jason Kraft, Val Manning, Brett Markham, George Reed, Richard Seaworth, Jon Slutsky, Becky Waldo and George Wallace. Others present: Karen Crumbaker (Extension), Charl es Gindler (L arimer Coun ty D NR), Donna Goodwin (Extension), and Linda Hoffmann (Staff liaison, Larimer County Planning & Building Division). Guest: Russell Legg of the Larimer County Planning, Gail Meisner Larimer County Resident and Matthew “Quint” Redmond of Agriburbia.
I. Meeting was called to order by Val Manning at 12:40 p.m.
II. Minutes for April 21, 2010 were reviewed and approved.
III. Quint Redmond of Agriburbia.com gave a presentation of TSR Group, Inc. The company was founded in 1997 in Golden, Colorado and the goal is to produce local food and reduce carbon footprint for residents and business in a development. Land parcels could be just a few acres or many hundreds of acres and still generate opportunities for sustainable living. The concept is being developed in several states.
IV. Lew Grant and his committee, Ag Land Preservation, presented a report from the meetings they have held. See handout. The next meeting will be focus on how to organize the importance of agriculture to the community.
V. Linda Hoffmann and Jason Kraft reported on the Northern Colorado Regional Food System Assessment. Counties involved are Larimer, Boulder and Weld. Jason Kraft is part of the Project Advisory Team (PAT) for Larimer County. Goals are to: 1) Develop an understanding of existing local food system as it relates to public health, economic development and quality of life. 2) Identify economic opportunities related to agricultural production. 3) Document needs and possible projects to strengthen the local food system. VI. Russ Legg from the Planning Department of Larimer County reviewed the draft of the guideline for preparing a Resoruce Stewardship Plan for Equestrian Operations. Questions were brought up. Russ will take the comments and suggestions back to the committee.
