VINE DRIVE PID #29 REFERRED ISSUE 5I
The Board of County Commissioners met at 11:00 a.m. with Neil Gluckman, Assistant County Manager. Chair Gibson presided, and Commissioner Rennels was present. Also present were: Marc Engemoen, Public Works Department; Linda Sanders; Engineering Department; Jan Kuhnen, and Sherry Wofford, Elections Department; and Kristen Romary, Deputy Clerk.
Mr. Engemoen explained that the outcome at the November 7, 2006, election resulted in a tie vote for the Larimer County Public Improvement District (PID) – Vine Drive #29 Referred Issue 5I Debt Question. Based on a tie vote, the ballot issue failed. However, Ms. Kuhnen stated that a mandatory recount is enforced, but the County Commissioners have the authority to waive the recount process. Ms. Kuhnen estimates that a recount will cost the County between $15,000 and $20,000.
Commissioner Rennels asked if residents in the Vine Drive PID were requesting that a recount take place. Ms. Sanders said that no requests for a recount had been made. Mr. Gluckman explained that the accuracy of the election was very good, and even if a recount was enforced, the outcome would most likely be the same. Chair Gibson stated that he was confident in the Larimer County voting system, and would be in support of waiving the mandatory recount process. Commissioner Rennels also felt that since those affected by the ballot issue did not request a recount, she would be in support of the recount waiver.
