County Offices, Courts and Landfill will be closed on Monday, July 4 for the Independence Day Holiday. Critical services at Larimer County are not disrupted by closures.
Avie Strand, director of the Health Department's Community Health Services division, was named a Northern Colorado Woman of Distinction by the Northern Colorado Business Report. Strand is one of 11 women honored at the Women of Distinction Breakfast at the Embassy Suites in Loveland.
Strand was honored for her leadership at the Health Department , where she has been employed since 1970, and for her work overseeing efforts aimed at health promotion, disease prevention, immunization, maternal child health and more. The award also honored her years of health-related activities outside of her day-to-day work including service on the originating Board of the Food Bank, and Boards of the Poudre Valley Hospital Foundation, the Health District of Northern Larimer County, and the State Board of Pharmacy. She was an active participant in the founding of the Poudre Valley Prenatal Care Program and, most recently, helped in efforts to bring Fort Collins' Inspiration Playground, an all-abilities playground at the end of Horsetooth Road, to local children. Strand currently serves as president of the Colorado Public Health Nursing Leaders.
"Avie is an outstanding example of a person who cares deeply about the health of not only the local but regional community and continues to contribute toward solving issues of health care access and quality," it was noted in Strand's nomination.
Born and raised in Montana, Strand has lived in Fort Collins since 1968.
Strand is one of the 11 women honored for distinctions in leadership in Northern Colorado in a variety of sectors including health care, business, finance; real estate; education; government, nonprofit human services; outstanding volunteerism; and nonprofit creative industries.
