Commissioners Honor Sam Waldo

The Larimer County Board of County Commissioners honored long-time Larimer County employee and citizen Sam Waldo with a Certificate of Appreciation from Jane Norton, Lieutenant Governor, on behalf of the Governor's Commission on Community Service. Sam was commended for her years of dedicated volunteer service to her community. The attached letter from Jane Norton stated in part, "I want to extend my sincere gratitude to you for your service to Colorado through volunteerism. Your passion and commitment to helping others and improving your community are truly remarkable."

Sam, at 80 years old, continues to work part-time at the Parks and Open Lands Department. She dedicates most of her other waking hours to serving the local community by volunteering in many capacities for the benefit of others:

  • 56 years teaching Sunday School (Berthoud United Methodist)
  • Meals on Wheels driver
  • Lions Club charitable and fund raising projects - eye screenings, glasses collection, flipping hamburgers and taking tickets at football games
  • Long-time member of the Johnstown Parks & Recreation Board, spearheaded creation of the parks district
  • Started a kitchen kazoo band in her basement 25 years ago which still performs free
  • Organizes Senior dances every month
  • Auditor and past volunteer for the TLC Parent-Cooperative Daycare Center
  • Election worker
  • 15 years with Berthoud Golden Links as volunteer bookkeeper, cook for community feeds, donating 75-100 hours a month
  • Chairman for the Supervisory Committee for Weld Schools Credit Union
  • Accountability Committee for Berthoud Elementary
  • Docent at the Berthoud Museum
