Larimer County Employee Wins Government Volunteer Award

Steve Schneider, an Information Technology Manager at Larimer County, is a winner of the first annual United We Serve Awards in Colorado. Steve was nominated by his peers for his outstanding contribution to the organization he serves as a volunteer, the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), Colorado Wing. Awards are presented to four government employees (city, county, state, and federal) who have demonstrated sustained excellence in volunteer service leading to significant positive outcomes for their communities.

The 'United We Serve' initiative was launched by President and Mrs. Obama in 2009 to encourage government employees to volunteer in their communities.

According to Steve's nominator, Roy Schutt, also of Information Technology at Larimer County, Steve has taken the CAP cadets' Emergency Services training program to new heights and has trained over 80 volunteers, aged 12-18, to work in search and rescue efforts and disaster preparedness. "When the Windsor Tornado hit, Steve and the cadets went door to door to assist residents and perform welfare checks." CAP cadets spent four days helping with the disaster relief response.
